Pauley Joins AU Women’s Hammer Provo List At Wooster

In the first week of 2019 outdoor action, Ashland University's women's track and field team had three hammer throwers earn provisional marks for NCAA Division II nationals, May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas.

On Friday (March 29) at the Wooster Invitational, a fourth women's hammer thrower, redshirt freshman Carrol Pauley, has been added to the provo list. Pauley won the event on Friday at 51.96 meters/170-feet-5 – a lifetime PR mark which could move her into the top 16 in the nation depending on what happens elsewhere the weekend.

Earning individual victories on Friday were junior Ellie Jindra in the women's high jump (1.66 meters/5-feet-5¼) and freshman Storm Elsesser in the men's high jump (1.92 meters/6-feet-3½).

Second-place showings were turned in by sophomore Gianna DiPippo in the women's hammer (50.83 meters/166-feet-9), junior Paula Wollenslegel in the women's high jump (1.59 meters/5-feet-2½), senior Stephen Pop in the men's hammer (55.04 meters/180-feet-7), and sophomore Romi Smith in the women's javelin (35.41 meters/116-feet-2).

Ending in third place were redshirt freshman Elizabeth Weimer in the women's hammer (46.78 meters/153-feet-5) and sophomore Miyuki Sugiyama in the women's high jump (1.56 meters/5-feet-1¼).

On Saturday (March 30) at Wooster, redshirt freshman Makayla Pop won the women's discus with a top heave of 45.39 meters/148-feet-1, while freshman Adam Keller won the men's pole vault at 4.60 meters/15-feet-1. Second-place finishes were turned in by Weimer in the women's shot put (12.64 meters/41-feet-5 3/4) and junior Amber Otermat in the women's pole vault (3.29 meters/10-feet-9 1/2).

Taking thirds on Saturday were Weimer in the women's discus (39.33 meters/129-feet-0) and senior Jacob Sprague in the men's pole vault (4.45 meters/14-feet-7 1/4).

Ashland's women, ranked No. 9 in the country, and men, ranked No. 12, will compete at the Northeast Ohio Quad on Friday and Saturday (April 5-6).
