Home cooking was certainly to the liking of Ashland University throwers Jake Glass and Mackenzie Leigh.

And thanks to their performances at the 10th Ashland Alumni Open, Glass, a junior, and Leigh, a senior, have been named the Week 5 outdoor Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's and women's field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Leigh, in less-than-ideal weather conditions, PRed in the women's hammer throw elite event, winning at 60.74 meters/199-feet-3. That top heave has Leigh at No. 2 on the NCAA Division II women's hammer rolls this spring.

Glass finished fourth in the men's shot put elite event with a top mark of 17.46 meters/57-feet-3½. That distance makes Glass the 17th-best men's shot putter in NCAA Division II.

For both Glass and Leigh, they each have earned their first career GLIAC weekly awards.

In five outdoor weeks, Ashland track and field athletes have earned 11 of the 20 conference weekly honors.

Ashland's men and women will compete at the Jesse Owens Relays on Friday and Saturday (April 26-27) at The Ohio State University.
