On the first day of the Jesse Owens Relays on Friday (April 26) in Columbus, Ohio, a pair of Ashland University throwers improved upon their previous provisional marks for the 2019 NCAA Division II nationals, May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas.
Junior Nick Zak not only moved up the D-II men's hammer throw rolls with his fourth-place finish in the championship division at 63.96 meters/209-feet-10 on Friday, but he also PRed by almost two full meters.
In the men's hammer open, senior Stephen Pop finished sixth with an improved provo of 56.57 meters/185-feet-7.
Senior Jim Toth took third in the men's hammer open (58.78 meters/192-feet-10), while redshirt freshman Lindsay Baker did the same in the women's hammer open (57.69 meters/189-feet-3).
The second and final day of the Jesse Owens Relays will be Saturday (Apri 27) at 10:30 a.m.
