In a continuation of a dominant spring in terms of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference awards, three Ashland University track and field athletes garnered Week 6 outdoor Athlete of the Week honors.

As announced by the GLIAC on Tuesday (April 30) morning, sophomore Trevor Bassitt is the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, junior Nick Zak is the Men's Field Athlete of the Week, and senior Mackenzie Leigh is the Women's Field Athlete of the Week, all for their efforts at the Jesse Owens Relays at The Ohio State University on Friday and Saturday (April 26-27).

Bassitt took third place in the men's 110-meter hurdles in 14.10 seconds, and was a member of the men's 4x100 relay team which also placed third in 40.82 seconds.

Zak was third in the men's shot put at 17.02 meters/55-feet-10¼, and tied for fourth in the men's hammer throw championship at 63.96 meters/209-feet-10. Those marks moved him to No. 7 in NCAA Division II in the hammer and No. 24 in the country in the shot put.

Leigh took fourth in the women's hammer throw championship at 60.32 meters/197-feet-11.

For Leigh, this is her second consecutive GLIAC award and second overall. Bassitt has landed five weekly conference honors all-time and his fourth in 2018-19, while Zak has earned his initial GLIAC weekly award.

Of the 24 GLIAC weekly awards outdoors in 2019, 14 have been earned by Ashland student-athletes.

Ashland's men and women will compete at the 2019 GLIAC Championships on Wednesday-Friday (May 1-3) at Grand Valley State.
