The 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be Thursday-Saturday (May 23-25) in Kingsville, Texas, but two members of Ashland University's track and field program already have earned some bigger hardware.

As announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), redshirt freshman Lindsay Baker is the 2019 D-II Women's Field Athlete of the Year in the Midwest Region, and associate head coach Ernie Clark is the 2019 D-II Men's Assistant Coach of the Year in the Midwest.

Baker joins Jamie Sindelar (2016) and Tara Cooper (2009) as Eagle women who have earned USTFCCCA D-II Midwest Women's Field Athlete of the Year honors outdoors. Baker is headed to nationals this week in three events (shot put, hammer throw and discus throw), and is the top-ranked women's shot putter (16.41 meters/53-feet-10¼) entering nationals.

For Clark, this is his third consecutive USTFCCCA D-II Midwest Men's Assistant Coach of the Year honor outdoors, and it's the fifth time Ashland has received the honor (Dave Smalley, 2013-14). Clark's charges combined for two automatic and seven provisional marks for outdoor nationals and racked up 91 points at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, and senior Myles Pringle (400-meter dash) and sophomore Trevor Bassitt (110 hurdles and 400 hurdles) are two of the top D-II athletes in their respective events.
