A second men's track and field national championship and a 10th-place women's track and field finish gives Ashland University's athletic department the No. 14 spot in the first 2018-19 NCAA Division II spring Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup standings update, released on Thursday (May 30) morning.

Ashland has begun the 2019 spring with 167.5 Directors' Cup points thanks to the outdoor nationals efforts of the Eagle men, who became the first Division II men's program with indoor and outdoor national championships in the same year since Saint Augustine's in 2014, and the Eagle women, who turned in their best outdoor nationals finish since 2015 (seventh).

AU has 505.5 Directors' Cup points in 2018-19, with the baseball team, currently in the Division II College World Series, remaining to add to the total. At this point in the standings, 264 D-II athletic programs have earned Directors' Cup points.

The final 2018-19 Division II Directors' Cup standings, with baseball and women's rowing included, will be released on June 12.

In 2017-18, Ashland finished 12th in the nation in the Directors' Cup. Ashland had a run of eight consecutive top-10 finishes from 2007-08 to 2014-15.

The Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
