Thanks to a second-place finish on Sunday (July 28) night at the 2019 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, former Ashland University national champion Katie Nageotte will be part of Team USA in the pole vault at the 2019 IAAF World Championships.
Nageotte's runner-up showing was 4.80 meters/15-feet-9. She will be joined on Team USA by Sandi Morris (first place, 4.85 meters/15-feet-11) and Jenn Suhr (third place, 4.70 meters/15-feet-5).
The 2019 IAAF World Championships will be Sept. 27-Oct. 6 in Doha, Qatar. This will be Nageotte's first outdoor worlds after competing in 2018 at IAAF indoor worlds in Birmingham, England.
Nageotte, who entered nationals tied for the third-best women's pole vaulter in the world in 2019 at 4.82 meters, won two national championships and was a three-time All-American as an Eagle.
One of five former and current Ashland track and field athletes to compete at USATF outdoor nationals, Nageotte was joined by junior-to-be Trevor Bassitt (men's 110-meter hurdles and men's 400 hurdles), Myles Pringle (men's 400 dash), Jordan Crayon and Danny Roberts (men's hammer throw).
On Thursday (July 25), Bassitt turned in a personal-best time of 50.84 seconds in the 400 hurdles to move on to the semifinals.
