NCAA Regional Returns To Ashland

            The Ashland University women's basketball team learned on Sunday night that it is the top seed in the Midwest Region and will host the 2013 Midwest Region Tournament this coming weekend.

            Ashland is ranked second in the nation and on Sunday (Mar. 10) won its second consecutive GLIAC Tournament championship. The Eagles are 31-1. This is the second straight year Kates Gymnasium has been the host for the NCAA regional.

            Ashland will play Indianapolis in a first round game on Friday (Mar. 15). The teams played this year on Dec. 14, in Indianapolis and the Eagles won, 70-54.

            Other first round games on Friday have Kentucky Wesleyan playing Michigan Tech, Findlay meeting Wayne State and Wisconsin-Parkside squaring off against Lewis. A year ago, AU and Wisconsin-Parkside met in the regional championship game.

            Tickets for Friday's games will go on sale at the AU athletic department offices on Tuesday, Mar. 12. Ticket information can be obtained by calling 419-289-5441. Game times and the complete scheduled will be announced later this week.

            This is AU's fourth trip to the NCAA postseason. All of those berths have came with Sue Ramsey as the head coach.

            The regional tournament consists of eight teams. Four games will be played on Friday. Two games will be played on Saturday, Mar. 16. The regional championship game will take place on Monday, Mar. 18. The regional champion will play in the Elite Eight at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio, Mar. 26-27, 29.
