Stimpert’s Highlight-Reel Pass Makes ESPNW Top 10

Ashland University sophomore guard Renee Stimpert has posted 227 assists in her 52-game Eagle career.

The 218th of those helpers, a behind-the-back pass for a layup by junior guard Maddie Dackin early in the third quarter of the 111-68 home win over Bellarmine on Dec. 30, got the Eagle women on ESPN. Stimpert's pass was the No. 4 play on a recent edition of espnW Top 10 plays.

This is the second time in a two-month period that an Ashland University athletics highlight has been shown on ESPN platforms. In early November, men's soccer sophomore defender Cameron Mendel's deflection goal at home vs. Tiffin also received national attention.

Stimpert leads the GLIAC at 5.6 assists per game in 2017-18, and is just outside of the conference's top 10 in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.0-to-1.

Sizing Up The NCAA's Best Winning Streaks

Ashland set the NCAA Division II women's basketball record with its 52nd consecutive win on Saturday (Jan. 6) at Northern Michigan, a 99-59 decision.

Where does that put the Eagle women in the history of the NCAA, all divisions and either gender? Well…

Opening Up The Notebook

- In senior forwards Laina Snyder and Andi Daugherty, the 2017-18 Eagles have the second- (Snyder, 1,870 points) and tied-for-third-best (Daugherty, 1,684) scorers, and the top (Snyder, 1,015) and fifth-best (Daugherty, 810) rebounders, in program history. In addition, Snyder is third all-time in scoring average at 16.1 and second in steals with 312, while Daugherty is third in career free-throw percentage (80.0) and fifth in career field-goal percentage (52.4).

- The record-breaking win at Northern Michigan saw Daugherty become the only player in program history to have at least 1,600 points, 800 rebounds, 300 assists, 100 blocks, 125 steals, a field-goal percentage of at least 50 percent and a free-throw percentage of at least 80 percent.

- Yet another senior forward, Julie Worley, has scored 45 points in the last five games, and has 906 in her career. Another 94 points would make Worley the 20th player in program history to join the 1,000-point club.

- Dackin is hitting 64.1 percent from the field in the last five games, and 57.7 percent from 3-point range in the last six contests.

- Sophomore guard Sarah Hart is sporting a 63.7 field-goal percentage over the last six games.

An Early Look Ahead To Thursday Night

For the second time in three games, Ashland will play a GLIAC North Division leader, as co-North pacesetter Grand Valley State (13-2, 6-1) comes to Kates Gymnasium on Thursday (Jan. 11) at 5:30 p.m.

The game will feature the GLIAC's top-ranked offense in the Eagles (100.0 points per game, 50.7 field-goal percentage, 83.6 free-throw percentage) against the conference's top-ranked defense in the Lakers (57.3 ppg. defense, 26.2 3-point field-goal percentage defense).
