Ashland University sophomore guard Jodi Johnson tied the program record for steals in a game with 10 on Saturday (Jan. 13) afternoon.

Johnson had a strong week well beyond just that in home wins vs. Grand Valley State on Thursday (Jan. 11) night and Purdue Northwest on Saturday, and as a result, she was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week on Monday (Jan. 15) morning.

The Week 8 GLIAC South honor comes following a week in which Johnson averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 8.0 steals per game, while shooting 64.7 percent from the field, 75.0 percent from 3-point range and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line. She tied a 25-year-old Ashland record when she recorded 10 steals against the Pride. Andreas Forester originally set the mark on Nov. 24, 1993 vs. Tampa.

Johnson is second in the conference at 18.4 points per game, second with a field-goal percentage of 59.3, first with a 3-point field-goal percentage of 47.4, tied for eighth with 3.3 assists per game and first with 3.8 steals per contest.

Johnson has earned GLIAC South Player of the Week honors three times this season, and four times in her Eagle career. This is Ashland's fifth such award of 2017-18, as senior forwards Laina Snyder (Week 4) and Andi Daugherty (Week 6) also landed the honors once this season.

Ashland (17-0 overall, 9-0 GLIAC) will go on the road on Thursday (Jan. 18) at 6 p.m. against Saginaw Valley State (4-12, 4-5). The Eagles currently are on an NCAA Division II women's basketball-record 54-game winning streak.
