Jodi Johnson knows how to fill a stat sheet.
She did so twice last week, and for that, Ashland University's sophomore guard is the Week 9 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week.
In wins at Saginaw Valley State (112-69 on Jan. 18) and Northwood (113-75 on Jan. 20), Johnson averaged 26.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game, while shooting 79.2 percent from the field, 80.0 percent from 3-point range and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line. Her 30 points at Northwood are second-most in her 56-game Eagle career (31 at home vs. Notre Dame College on Nov. 14, 2017).
Through the weekend, Johnson leads NCAA Division II in steals per game (3.74) and is ninth in the country in field-goal percentage (61.5). She is second in the GLIAC at 19.2 points per game, leads the circuit in field-goal percentage, 3-point field-goal percentage (54.2) and steals per game; and is tied for fifth in free-throw percentage (85.7) and assists per game (3.5).
Johnson has landed five GLIAC South honors in her career, four in 2017-18. Ashland's women's basketball team has garnered six South weekly awards, as senior forwards Laina Snyder (Week 4) and Andi Daugherty (Week 6) also landed the honors once this season.
The Eagles are 19-0 overall and 11-0 in the GLIAC, and will return home for a conference matchup with Tiffin (6-13, 2-9) on Saturday (Jan. 27) at 1 p.m. at Kates Gymnasium. Ashland has won 56 consecutive games, the Division II women's basketball all-time record, and is one win away from tying the D-II hoops record, regardless of gender, of 57, set by Winona State's men from Jan. 13, 2006-March 22, 2007.
