The old saying goes there are certainties in life – death, taxes, etc.

For most of the 2017-18 season, the certainty has been an Ashland University women's basketball player named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week. And for most of those weeks, that player has been sophomore guard Jodi Johnson.

On Monday (Jan. 29) morning, Johnson landed the honor for the third week in a row, the fifth time this season and the sixth time in her 57-game Eagle career. She had a perfect game – literally - in the No. 1-ranked Eagles' 111-46 home win over Tiffin, as she didn't miss a shot. Johnson 6-for-6 from the field, 3-for-3 from 3-point range and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line - and ended with 17 points, three rebounds, five assists, eight steals and two blocked shots.

Johnson is second in the GLIAC at 19.1 points per game, leads the conference in field-goal percentage (62.9), 3-point field-goal percentage (56.9) and steals per game (3.9); is tied for fourth in free-throw percentage (86.0) and is tied for seventh in assists per game (3.5).

Of the 10 South Division Players of the Week in 2017-18, seven have been Ashland players. Senior forwards Laina Snyder (Week 4) and Andi Daugherty (Week 6) also landed the honors once this season.

The Eagles are 20-0 overall and 12-0 in the GLIAC, and will go back on the road for a matchup of the top two teams in the South on Thursday (Feb. 1) at 5:30 p.m. vs. Wayne State (14-4, 9-3). Ashland has won 57 straight games, the most in the history of NCAA Division II women's basketball and tied for the most in D-II hoops, regardless of gender.
