Ashland University's women's basketball team's history-making ways of late continued on Tuesday (March 13) afternoon, as senior forwards Andi Daugherty and Laina Snyder each were named first-team Academic All-Americans in NCAA Division II by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Daugherty becomes the first student-athlete in Ashland College/University athletics history to earn three Academic All-American awards, while Snyder is one of only 19 Eagles across all athletic programs to garner the honor twice.
Sporting a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average in Finance, Daugherty is averaging 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 2017-18, and shooting 55.3 percent from the field, 41.8 percent from 3-point range and 89.8 percent from the free-throw line.
A Business Management major with a 3.91 cumulative GPA, Snyder goes for 19.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.6 steals per contest, and hits 53.0 percent from the floor, 34.7 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the foul line.
Ashland is the only Division II women's basketball team to boast two first-team Academic All-Americans – and two Academic All-Americans period – in 2017-18. This is just the second time Ashland has had two first-team Academic All-Americans in the same season. In 2012-13, forwards Kari Daugherty (Pickens) and Daiva Gerbec also earned the first-team honor in the same campaign.
In the history of the Academic All-American program, Ashland's 12 such awards are the second-most at all NCAA levels in women's basketball, behind only Connecticut and Tennessee's 14 each.
