Ashland University head women's basketball coach Kari Pickens has added former Western State (Colo.) and Southern Indiana assistant coach Stephanie Gehlhausen to the same position on the Eagle staff.

"Steph is an excellent addition for Ashland women's basketball," Pickens said. "She has had experience at a variety of Division II schools, she's been a recruiting coordinator at two different schools that have had a lot of success. I'm excited for the knowledge that she's going to bring.

"She loves to learn, and grow in the game of basketball. She's going to help us continue the excellence that we've been able to have, because of the recruits we've been able to get."

Gehlhausen spent the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons as an assistant at Western State, following four seasons coaching at her alma mater, USI. She has previous experience in all aspects of on-court player development, identifying and recruiting potential student-athletes, developing scouting reports on opponents, organizing and co-managing summer camps, and was the video coordinator, along with many other duties.

"I'm ecstatic," Gehlhausen said. "Ashland is on a platform, and has been since I've been a part of Division II. When I got the call, it was almost a no-brainer.

"Just to join a university that is as proud and kind of dignified in its traditions as Ashland is also really exciting. It's really humbling to be a part of this family."

A college basketball player at both USI (2009-11) and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (2006-09), Gehlhausen played in 105 career games, and was voted team captain of the Screaming Eagles.

Gehlhausen graduated Cum Laude from USI in 2012 with a degree in Kinesiology.

In 2017-18, Ashland's women's basketball team was 36-1 overall and 20-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Eagles were the NCAA Division II runner-up, and winners of GLIAC regular-season, GLIAC Tournament and Midwest Regional tournament championships. In the last seven seasons, Ashland has two national titles, two national finalist finishes, and an overall record of 217-24 (.900).
