Johnson Earns 10th GLIAC South Division Award Of Career

Ashland University's women's basketball team is tied for first place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division, but the Eagles' lead in 2018-19 GLIAC South Player of the Week awards is expanding.

For the 10th time in her AU career and the second time this season, junior guard/forward Jodi Johnson is the South Player of the Week, as announced by the GLIAC on Monday (Dec. 3) afternoon. Johnson opened GLIAC play by averaging 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game, and shooting 71.4 percent from the field, 80 percent from 3-point range and 84.6 percent from the free-throw line in home wins over Lake Superior State on Thursday (Nov. 29) and Ferris State on Saturday (Dec. 1). Johnson scored a career-high-tying 31 points against the Bulldogs.

Through Saturday, Johnson is the conference pacesetter at 21.0 points per game and with a 68.5 field-goal percentage. She is tied for sixth in the league at 50.0 percent from 3-point range, is fourth with a free-throw percentage of 90.0, is tied for fourth with 2.3 steals per game, and is tied for 10th with 3.0 assists per contest.

This is the third GLIAC South honor for an Ashland player in the first four weeks of the season, as junior forward Sara Loomis garnered the award on Nov. 26.

No. 1-ranked Ashland (7-0 overall, 2-0 GLIAC) will travel to No. T-16 Grand Valley State (6-1, 2-0) on Thursday (Dec. 6) at 6 p.m.
