In its final game prior to the Christmas break, No. 8-ranked Ashland University women's basketball took a 96-46 decision on Wednesday (Dec. 19) night at Indianapolis.
The Eagles are 10-1, and this marks the fourth season in a row, and the sixth time this decade, that Ashland has won at least 10 of its first 11 games. AU also has won 31 consecutive regular-season non-conference games.
Ashland has won four straight games in the series with Indy (6-4), and seven of the last eight meetings.
THE TOP TEN
1. Junior guard/forward Jodi Johnson scored a game-high 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field. Johnson moves up to 1,356 career points, 14 away from tying Jodi Dobransky-Campbell (1,370) for eighth place on AU's all-time scoring list.
2. After missing roughly a game and a half due to injury, junior forward Sara Loomis came back on Wednesday to post 17 points (including four 3-pointers) and seven blocks, two rejections shy of the program record of nine, set by Krista Thornell on Nov. 15, 1998.
3. Junior guard Renee Stimpert ended the night with nine assists, giving her 72 helpers in the last eight games. Stimpert is averaging 7.9 assists per game in 2018-19.
4. In 20 minutes off the bench, freshman guard Hallie Heidemann added 13 points, including three triples.
5. Ashland ended the night hitting 55.7 percent from the floor and 54.2 percent from downtown. Defensively, the Eagles held Indy to 33.3 percent from the field and 1-of-15 from 3. Twenty-five Greyhound turnovers resulted in 31 AU points.
6. The first quarter saw Ashland lead the Greyhounds by a 29-10 count, as the Eagles hit 11-of-16 shots from the floor, 6-of-7 from beyond the arc. Indy turned the ball over nine times in the game's first 10 minutes.
7. Ashland finished off a 13-0 run early in the second period for a 37-10 advantage, and the lead also was 27 points at 44-17 at the second-stanza media timeout.
8. By halftime, the Eagles' lead was 54-25, as their dominance at both of the end floor continued. AU had eight assists on 11 second-quarter field goals, and didn't turn the ball over. Indy turned the ball over 15 times in the first half, leading to 20 Eagle points.
9. Ashland is 180-13 (.933) all-time as a team ranked in the D-II coaches' poll, and 81-8 (.910) in such games on the road.
10. For Indy, Laura Thomas scored a team-high 16 points.
