Eagles Move Up One Spot To No. 7 In WBCA Poll

Ashland University's women's basketball team has started its climb back up the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

The latest edition of the poll, released on Tuesday (Jan. 8) afternoon, has the Eagles at No. 7 in the country. Ashland is 13-1 overall and 5-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and has a six-game winning streak going into its first league road trip of 2019 – Thursday (Jan. 10) at 6:30 p.m. at Parkside (4-8, 2-4), and Saturday (Jan. 12) at 4 p.m. at Purdue Northwest (2-10, 0-6).

The Eagles are coming off two wins at Kates Gymnasium to open the new year - 80-58 vs. Michigan Tech on Thursday (Jan. 3), and 71-55 vs. Northern Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 5). Those victories increase their program-record home winning streak to 47 games.

Ashland continues the longest Division II coaches' poll's active streak of being in the top 10 at 54 polls in a row. Overall, the Eagles have been ranked in the poll 94 times, and their overall record as a ranked team is 183-13 (.934).

In addition to Ashland, the GLIAC has No. 9-ranked Grand Valley State in this week's poll.

2018-19 WBCA POLL RANKINGS: No. 2 (preseason and Nov. 20), No. 1 (Nov. 27 and Dec. 4), No. 8 (Dec. 11, Dec. 18 and Jan. 2), No. 7 (Jan. 8).
