On Monday (Jan. 14) afternoon, Ashland University junior guard Renee Stimpert landed the first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week award of her Eagle career.

Stimpert had two big road games in both points and assists last week in wins against Parkside on Thursday (Jan. 10) and Purdue Northwest on Saturday (Jan. 12). Against the Rangers, Stimpert posted a career-high-tying 24 points, seven assists and four rebounds while hitting 10-of-14 shots from the field and 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Versus the Pride, she went for 18 points, seven helpers, three boards and two steals, while making 8-of-16 from the floor.

Through Saturday, Stimpert far and away leads the GLIAC in assists per game at 7.3. She also averages 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals per contest, and is two assists away from becoming the second player in program history with 500 in a career.

This is the sixth GLIAC South Player of the Week award Ashland's women have earned this season, along with three from junior guard/forward Jodi Johnson (Weeks 2, 4 and 7), and two from junior forward Sara Loomis (Weeks 3 and 5).

Ashland, ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division II, is 15-1 overall and 7-1 in the GLIAC, and will take an eight-game winning streak into Thursday's (Jan. 17) game at 5:30 p.m. at Kates Gymnasium vs. Saginaw Valley State (3-12, 3-5).
