Loomis Lands Second GLIAC South Award Of 2018-19

As announced by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Monday (Jan. 21) afternoon, Ashland University junior forward Sara Loomis is the 2018-19 Week 10 GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.

In wins over Saginaw Valley State (83-60 on Jan. 17) and Northwood (98-65 on Jan. 19) last week at Kates Gymnasium, Loomis compiled 39 points, 24 rebounds and 14 blocked shots, while making 15-of-23 (65.2 percent) attempts from the field and 8-of-9 (88.9 percent) from the free-throw line.

So far this season, Loomis ranks third in the GLIAC in scoring (16.1 ppg.), tied for sixth in field-goal percentage (54.2), tied for fifth in 3-point field-goal percentage (44.0), third in free-throw percentage (86.5), third in rebounding (9.6 rpg.), and first in blocks per game (3.5).

Through Sunday (Jan. 20), Loomis is sixth in NCAA Division II in blocks per game, and is tied for 13th in the country with nine double-doubles.

This is Loomis' second GLIAC South award of the season and her Eagle career.

In 10 weeks of the current campaign, Ashland's No. 6-ranked women's basketball team has garnered six GLIAC South honors – junior guard/forward Jodi Johnson in Weeks 2, 4 and 7, Loomis in Weeks 3 and 10, and junior guard Renee Stimpert in Week 9.

The Eagles, tied for first place in the GLIAC South and overall conference standings at 17-1 overall and 9-1 in the GLIAC, will take a 10-game winning streak into Saturday's (Jan. 26) 1 p.m. league game at Wayne State (10-8, 5-5).
