ALLENDALE, Mich. – At the banquet on Friday (March 8) night prior to the start of the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Final Four, four Ashland University women's basketball players earned all-conference honors.
Landing on the 2018-19 All-GLIAC First Team are three Eagle juniors – guard/forward Jodi Johnson, forward Sara Loomis and guard Renee Stimpert.
Johnson is among the conference's top players in scoring (second, 18.8 ppg.), minutes (second, 33.3 mpg.), field-goal percentage (first, 59.5), free-throw percentage (88.2), rebounds (7.1 rpg.) and steals (2.6 spg.). Loomis is the only player in the conference who ranks in the top three in all of the following categories – scoring (third, 15.5 ppg.), 3-point field-goal percentage (third, 43.4), free-throw percentage (second, 88.8), rebounding (second, 10.0 rpg.) and blocks (second, 2.9 bpg.).
Stimpert far and away is the GLIAC leader in assists per game at 7.5, while also leading the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.8-to-1.
Senior guard Maddie Dackin is an all-conference second-team selection. She is tied for ninth in the league at 12.0 points per game, and is seventh in both 3-point field-goal percentage (40.4) and free-throw percentage (80.2).
Both Johnson and Loomis also earned spots on the 2018-19 All-GLIAC Defensive Team.
The 2018-19 GLIAC Women's Basketball Postseason Awards went to Grand Valley State center Cassidy Boensch (Player of the Year), Michigan Tech guard Ellie Mackay (Freshman of the Year) and GVSU's Mike Williams (Coach of the Year).
For the eighth time in the last nine seasons, Ashland will play in the GLIAC Tournament Final Four. The No. 6-ranked Eagles (27-2), the tourney's No. 2 seed, will take on No. 3-seeded Michigan Tech (21-8) at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday (March 9) at Grand Valley State.
In the other tournament semifinal, the top-seeded Lakers (27-2) will play No. 4 seed Northern Michigan (21-8) at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The 2019 GLIAC Tournament championship game will be Sunday (March 10) at 3 p.m. at GVSU.
