Former Ashland University guard Maddie Dackin isn't done playing basketball, having recently signed a contract with Lemvig Basket of Denmark's Dameligaen, the premier league for women's hoops in the country.

"I'm super excited," Dackin said. "It's going to be completely different and a new journey in my life."

Dackin finished her Eagle career as the 17th-best scorer in program history with 1,176 points, and tied for the second-most games played at Ashland at 134. Along with fellow senior guard Brooke Smith, Dackin is half of the winningest senior class in program history (133 victories), and the two never lost a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament game, taking home four GLIAC Tournament trophies in the process.

"Just having those moments of being in a pressure situation can translate into any situation," said Dackin. "Knowing how to win is going to be beneficial."

Her senior season was injury-plagued, but still resulted in a second straight second-team All-GLIAC citation. Dackin averaged 11.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game, while hitting 43.4 percent from the field, 41.6 percent from 3-point range, and 80.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Dackin is following in the footsteps of Ashland head coach Kari Pickens and former Eagle teammate Laina Snyder, who did play and is playing, respectively, post-collegiately in Australia.

"Last summer, Maddie said that this was a goal she had after she graduated," Pickens said. "She put in a ton of work, and put herself in a position to be able to have this opportunity. I'm so excited for her.

"Our previous grad assistant, Emily Hatch, had played in the same league that Maddie will be playing in. I know coach Hatch said the people in Denmark take really good care of the players who go over there, so I think Maddie's going to have a great experience."

"I got an agent, the same one who worked with Laina, and he's from Denmark," Dackin said, "so he's the one who got in contact with them.

"She's been doing great so far, and it's been fun to watch her flourish in the professional field."

Dameligaen's 2018-19 season was played from October-March, with its postseason going from March-May. Lemvig was 2-12 in the regular season, and 2-4 in the playoffs.

"I'm just excited for the ability to travel while I'm over there, and make new friends from different countries," Dackin said. "I haven't put a timeline on myself. As long as I love it, I'm going to keep doing it."
