Ashland University has received a gift in the amount of $78,000 from Ted and Margaret Fauber designated for the creation of "The Ted & Margaret Rossborough Fauber Golf Practice Facility" at Ashland University.
The facility, which will be an all-season practice facility with complete long- and short-game areas for collegiate athletes, will be located in the Physical Education Center off King Road. The area that formerly housed two racquetball courts in the lower level of the center will be renovated to create the golf practice facility.
Ted Fauber is a 1957 graduate of Ashland High School, and both Ted and Margaret Fauber are 1965 graduates of Ashland University.
"Golf was my interest and passion in sports, and I was on the golf team in both high school and college," Fauber said, "and my wife is an accomplished golfer and has won numerous club championships."
Fauber said both he and his wife were interested in giving back to the University, and they were happy that their gift will create something that will be used on a daily basis and truly will be appreciated by golf athletes.
Al King, AU's interim director of athletics, said, "We want to thank Ted and Margaret Fauber for their friendship and generous gift. We believe this wonderful facility will have a huge impact on our intercollegiate golf programs."
King said the AU golf coaches and student-athletes are thrilled with the prospects of having an indoor place to practice golf during inclement weather.
"Colleges located in the north like Ashland are challenged to find suitable places to practice during the winter months. The Fauber Practice Facility will address that challenge and be a tremendous recruitment and retention tool as well," King said.
The renovation, which started the last week in October, is being handled by Simonson Construction with the assistance of AU's facilities staff. The new facility is expected to be completed by the first of February.
