"Go Low."
That's been the motto of the Ashland University women's golf team all season. On Monday (May 4), the Eagles did just that. AU came out and shot a low round of 308, bumping it up to fifth place overall, just one stroke out of third place.
After Tuesday's (May 5) final round, the top three teams from the NCAA East Super Regional will advance on to the NCAA Division II championships in Allendale, Mich., May 13-16.
Both the top two teams, the University of Indianapolis and Missouri-St. Louis, have created a gap back to third place after Round 2. UI has a two-round score of 617, and UMSL trails by four strokes with a 621. The battle would then seemingly be for the third and final spot in the championships. Four teams are within three strokes of third place.
Grand Valley State sits in the third and final spot with a score of 626. Findlay clings to fourth with a 627. With Monday's round of 308, the Eagles pulled to within one stroke of the Oilers and two strokes of the Lakers at 628. Right on the heels of the Eagles is Southern Indiana with a 629.
The Eagles were led by junior Ali Green, who fired off a 74, collecting four birdies along the way. Combined with her first-round score of 79 (153), she is tied for seventh place overall.
Senior Abby Tepe scored a 77 on Monday and has a two-round score of 158. Fellow senior Madison Musick hit the tournament's only Eagle so far when she carded a 2 on the par-4 13th hole. She finished the round with a 78 and has a 157 after day 2.
Sophomore Kaitlin Neumann recorded a 79 (165) on Monday, and sophomore Emily Jereb shot an 81 (162).
The Eagles will return to Cog Hill Golf & Country Club on Tuesday (May 5) for their final day of super regional action.
