The Eagles got the job done.
The Ashland University women's golf team finished the East Super Regional in a tie for second place after the Eagles shot a team tournament-low on Tuesday (May 5) of 307.
The University of Findlay and Ashland found themselves deadlocked after 54 holes of competition for the third and final spot to go to the championships. To break the tie it appeared as if the two might have to go to a sudden-death playoff. However, in the late stages, Grand Valley State slipped from second to fourth on the leaderboard to give both the Oilers and Eagles an NCAA championship birth.
The University of Indianapolis won the tournament, as the Greyhounds shot a three-day low of 922. The second-place Eagles and Oilers tallied 935 strokes. GVSU found itself on the outside looking in, finishing with a three-day total of 937 shots.
Senior Abby Tepe played even par on the back nine, which plagued golfers all day. She ended with the Eagles' best round of 74, and 232 on the tournament. She tied for 11th place overall.
Junior Ali Green was the last of the Eagle golfers to come into the clubhouse. Down just one stroke to the Oilers, Green sunk a birdie on the par-4 17th hole to knot the Eagles and Oilers up. She finished with a third-round 76 (229) and in seventh place overall.
Sophomore Kaitlin Neumann had her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, as she fired off a 76 (241) and finished tied for 27th overall. Senior Madison Musick shot an 81 (238) and tied for 21st overall. Sophomore Emily Jereb carded an 84 (246) on the afternoon.
Tuesday's round of 307 was the Eagles' best team round since they shot 302 at the Perry Park Spring Fling in late March.
The Eagles will head to the NCAA Championships at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich., May 13-16.
