Rain on Saturday (Oct. 3) forced all 12 teams at the Ashland University Invitational to play more golf than usual on Sunday (Oct. 4).
For the host Eagle women's golf team, however, the wait was worth it.
Ashland won a home invitational for the second time this fall, firing a red-hot round of 304 on Sunday en route to a 12-stroke victory over second-place Findlay. The Eagles had a two-day total of 626, followed by the Oilers (638) and Northwood (645).
Two weeks ago, AU won the 11-team Eagle Invitational by 16 shots over second-place Wheeling Jesuit.
AU senior Ali Green earned medalist honors over the weekend, firing matching rounds of 73 to finish with a two-over-par 146. Green's rounds of 73 are her best so far in 2015.
Junior Kaitlin Neumann finished in a tie for third individually at 79-76—155, and freshman Monica Torda landed in a five-way tie for 10th at 83-79—162. The round of 79 was Torda's lowest in her young collegiate career.
Junior Emily Jereb was tied for 21st (91-76—167), and freshman Kayleigh McHugh was tied for 37th (87-89—176).
The Eagles will return to the links on Oct. 11-12 at Findlay's Beall Fall Classic.
