Ashland University senior Ali Green kept up her standout play of late in Day 1 of the 2016 NCAA Division II Super Region 1 in Springfield, Ill., on Monday (May 2), firing a 2-under 70 to sit in a tie for second place individually.
The Eagles are fifth as a team after the first day of the three-day Super Regional. AU finished with a team score of 315. Indianapolis (296), Grand Valley State (302) and Findlay (304) occupy the first three spots with 36 holes to go.
The top three teams and top three individuals not with a team will advance to the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships, May 18-21 at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colo.
Green, who was 3-under on the back nine thanks to three birdies and six pars, is three shots back of Findlay's Kasey Petty (5-under 67) through the tournament's first 18 holes. Green was coming off a school-record round of 67 at the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, and her last five rounds have seen scores of 77, 73, 75, 67 and 70.
Junior Kaitlin Neumann came in with Ashland's second-best score of the day at 81, while junior Emily Jereb and freshmen Monica Torda and Morgan Eib all finished with 82s. Torda's total included an eagle on hole No. 9.
Round 2 of the Super Regional will be Tuesday (May 3) at 9:30 a.m.
