Green Leads Super Regional Field, Eagles Fourth After Day 2

It could be argued that in the 16-season history of the Ashland University women's golf program, no Eagle has been on a hotter streak than senior Ali Green.

Tuesday (May 3) on Day 2 of the 2016 NCAA Division II Super Region 1 in Springfield, Ill., Green fired a 3-under 69 to take a two-shot lead going into the third and final round on Wednesday (May 4). Green, the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference medalist, is vying to become Ashland women's golf's second regional medalist, joining Erin Misheff (2011).

As a team, the Eagles improved three strokes on Monday's (May 2) 315 for a 312 to move into fourth place. Indianapolis leads the field at 296-296—592, followed by Grand Valley State (302-312—614) and Findlay (304-310—614).

The top three teams and top three individuals not with a team will advance to the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships, May 18-21 at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colo.

Green's 69 is just the fourth sub-70 round in the history of the Eagle program – Green has two (in consecutive tournaments), and Misheff has the other two. Green's average score over her last six rounds is 71.8.

Junior Kaitlin Neumann used birdies on holes No. 7 and 10 to finish with a second-round 77, and is at 14-over 158 after 36 holes. Junior Emily Jereb and freshman Morgan Eib have identical 82-83—165s through two days of play, while freshman Monica Torda is at 82-89—171.

The third and final round of Super Region 1 will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
