Ashland University senior Ali Green has won six tournaments as an Eagle.
None of those wins were bigger than the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship – until Wednesday (May 4).
Green followed up a medalist performance in the conference tournament with a repeat showing at the 2016 NCAA Division II Super Region 1 in Springfield, Ill. She led the field through Day 2 on Tuesday (May 3), then fought off Findlay's Kasey Petty on Wednesday to win by two strokes. Her three-day total of 70-69-74—213 is a new school record for a 54-hole tournament.
Green will play in the Division II Women's Golf Championships for the third time on May 18-21 at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. The top three teams and top three individuals not with a team advanced to nationals.
Ashland finished tied for fourth as a team at 315-312-310—937. Indianapolis (296-296-303—895), Grand Valley State (302-312-298—912) and Findlay (304-310-307—921) are the teams advancing to nationals out of the East.
In the 54-hole tournament, Green ended with seven birdies and four bogeys. On the back nine during the Super Regional, she accumulated six birdies and no bogeys.
Green's last two tournaments, the GLIAC Championship and the Super Regional 1, have seen her post rounds of 73, 75, a school-record 67, 70, 69 and 74 for an average of 71.3. She also ties the school record for wins in a season (three), set by Erin Misheff in 2009-10.
Junior Kaitlin Neumann turned in her best round of the week on Wednesday, carding a 74 to finish 13th individually at 81-77-74—232.
Junior Emily Jereb tied for 38th (82-83-82—247), freshman Morgan Eib was tied for 43rd (82-83-83—248) and freshman Monica Torda placed in a tie for 49th (82-89-80—251).
The Eagles, playing in the super regional for the eighth year in a row as a team, ended 2015-16 with their most consistent stretch of the season, going seven straight rounds with a team score of 315 or better.
