Eagle Women Rally For A Tie For Second In Canton

In its final round prior to the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, Ashland University's women's golf team shot a 307 to move up and finish in a tie for second on Tuesday (April 11) at the Cav Classic in Canton.

The Eagles finished the two-day tournament at 622, 14 shots behind champion Grand Valley State (608) and tied with Northern Michigan for the runner-up title. Ashland has finished in the top three as a team in three of the last four tournaments.

Senior Kaitlin Neumann continued her strong spring, ending in a tie for second individually at 75-74—149. It is Neumann's sixth consecutive top-10 placement and eighth in 10 tournaments in 2016-17. She has finished in the top five three times this season, and has fired a 75 or better in five of her last nine rounds.

Redshirt freshman Krystal Hu placed in a tie for sixth with her two-day showing of 76-76—152. In five spring tournaments, she has been in the top 10 three times.

Sophomore Monica Torda tied for 20th (81-79—160), and fellow sophomore Morgan Eib was 24th (83-78—161). Yet another sophomore, Kayleigh McHugh, rounded out the AU effort (tied for 60th, 86-96—182).

The Cav Classic was played at Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, where the 2017 NCAA Super Regional will take place on May 8-10.
