Eagles Finish Third At GVSU; Hu, Lemons Both In Top Five

Another weekend, another strong finish for Ashland University's women's golf team.

On the second and final day of Grand Valley State's Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 1), the Eagle women finished third as a team for the third straight tournament, and a pair of AU golfers placed in the top five among the 53-player field.

Sophomore Krystal Hu ended the invite at 74-75—149 and finished fourth individually, while freshman Hannah Lemons was right behind in fifth at 72-78—150. Hu has turned in three top-four placements this fall, including a medalist finish, while Lemons has been in the top 10 in three of her four collegiate outings to date.

Ashland finished the weekend at 311-320—631, behind only the host Lakers (299-292—591) and Northern Michigan (306-312—618). The Eagles have a win and three third-place showing in four fall tourneys.

Freshman Sophie Hemleben placed 21st (78-84—162), junior Monica Torda was tied for 34th (87-83—170) and sophomore Logan Pottorf placed in a tie for 51st (91-93—184).

UP NEXT: The final tournament of the fall of 2017, the Bing Beall Fall Classic at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio, on Oct. 8-9.
