An Ashland University women's golf fall season which has featured a team title, an individual championship and many low scores will conclude on Sunday (Oct. 8) and Monday (Oct. 9) at the Bing Beall Fall Classic at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.
"Five of the top six teams in the region are going to be there," noted Ashland head coach Andrew Bolinger. "Indy and Missouri-St. Louis are in the top four in the nation right now, so it's one of the best tournaments we're going to play in all year.
"We've played in competitive tournaments previously, but this one's unlike any other, with such a strong field."
As a team so far in 2017-18, the Eagle women have won a tournament, placed third in three others and have an average team score of 311.4 – which would be a program record with enough rounds played.
"A top-three will definitely mean more, with all these teams regionally," Bolinger said. "They have the ability to finish strong and lead into the spring."
Sophomore Krystal Hu is averaging a round of 74.9 during the fall season, and in 10 career tournaments as an Eagle, she has two medalist honors and six top-10 finishes.
Freshman Hannah Lemons is averaging a round of 76.4 in her first four collegiate outings, and hasn't finished lower than 11th individually in any of them.
Junior Monica Torda (79.6) and freshman Sophie Hemleben (80.6) have been in the starting lineup throughout the fall campaign.
"We have a lot of talent," Bolinger said. "We only have five that can really play golf right now. Going forward, if we can get everyone at 100 health, we should be competing in every tournament. And with Krystal and Hannah, they also should be competing individually at every tournament."
