Playing for the first time in more than three weeks, Ashland University's women's golf team is in third place in the 16-team field at the NC4K College Classic after 18 holes on Monday (April 9).
The Eagles, who hadn't played since the Saginaw Valley State University Spring Invitational on March 17-18, finished Monday's round with a team score of 312. Nationally-ranked Grand Valley State leads the field at 305, while Northern Michigan is two shots back at 307.
Ashland was led on Day 1 by a pair of freshmen – Hannah Lemons and Sophie Hemleben. Lemons and Hemleben each are tied for eighth in the individual leaderboard with matching 5-over-par 77s, and both recorded two birdies in the opening round. Both Lemons and Hemleben are six shots behind the leader, Grand Valley State's Katie Chipman (71).
Following right behind was sophomore Krystal Hu, who is tied for 14th at 78. Junior Monica Torda is tied for 20th at 80, including one birdie, and sophomore Logan Pottorf is tied for 50th at 86, including a bird.
The NC4K is the Eagles' third spring tournament. Ashland will play host to an invitational on Saturday (April 14) and Sunday (April 15) at Ashland Golf Club prior to the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, April 20-22 at The Virtues in Nashport, Ohio.
