Hu In Top Five, Eagles Seventh To End GLIACs

Ashland University sophomore Krystal Hu finished in a tie for fifth place following the third and final day of the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, Sunday (April 22) at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

Hu's third-round score of 3-over-par 75 gave her a total of 78-76-75—229, four shots behind medalist Katie Chipman of Grand Valley State (77-73-75—225). This is the third consecutive season an Eagle has finished in the top five at the GLIAC tournament. Ali Green was the 2016 medalist, and Kaitlin Neumann was third in 2017.

As a team, the Eagles continued to improve as the tournament progressed. Ashland ended at 331-318-315—964, to finish in seventh place. The Lakers won the team title (313-294-305—912), Northern Michigan was runner-up (309-300-310—919) and Tiffin was third (319-310-310—939).

Freshman Hannah Lemons tied for 14th individually (83-74-78—235). Junior Monica Torda finished tied for 32nd (83-82-83—248), freshman Sophie Hemleben was tied for 38th (87-86-79—252), and sophomore Logan Pottorf was 50th (101-86-85—272).

Ashland was seventh in the second of three sets of NCAA Division II East super regional rankings. The third set will be released on Thursday (April 26), and the selections for the NCAA Division II postseason will be announced on April 30 at 3 p.m. in a press release on NCAA.com. Twelve teams, and six individuals not on those teams, will compete in the East super regional, May 7-9 at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.
