On "moving day," Day 2 of the 2018 NCAA Division II East Regional on Tuesday (May 8) at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich., Ashland University's women's golf team remained in fifth place in the team standings with 18 holes to go.
The Eagles fired a second-day 317, putting them at 309-317—626 through 36 holes. Grand Valley State remained in first place (289-292—581), Indianapolis stayed in second place (292-292—584), and Missouri-St. Louis moved up one spot into third place (305-308—613).
The low three teams, and the low three individuals not on those teams, in each region will advance to the 2018 NCAA Division II Championships, May 16-19 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
Both sophomore Krystal Hu and freshman Hannah Lemons have put themselves in a position to qualify for nationals as individuals, should the Eagles not finish in the top three as a team.
Hu is tied for seventh overall at 74-75—149, but is tied for first among players not on one of the top three squads. She birdied holes No. 1 and 6 on Tuesday, and was 1-under-pair on the final nine holes.
Lemons is tied for 13th overall (75-76—151), and is one shot behind Findlay's Makenzie Torres and Northern Michigan's Haley Hewer for the final individual nationals qualifier spot through two days of play. On Tuesday, she birdied holes No. 7 and 12, and was 2-over-par on both the front and back nines, and in her last four rounds, is averaging a score of 75.75.
Freshman Sophie Hemleben is tied for 27th after two rounds of 79-78—157. Hemleben carded three birdies on Tuesday (holes No. 7, 12 and 15), and is well below her 2017-18 average of 82.2 at the regional tournament.
Junior Monica Torda is 81-88—169 (tied for 58th) through Tuesday, including a birdie on hole No. 4 in Round 2, while sophomore Logan Pottorf is 89-95—184 (66th).
