Krystal Hu is going to nationals for the first time.

Ashland University's sophomore women's golfer finished in third place among players not on one of the top three teams at the 2018 NCAA Division II East Regional at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. That qualifies Hu for a spot at the 2018 NCAA Division II Championships, May 16-19 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.

On the third and final day of the regional on Wednesday (May 9), Hu ended with a round of 76, finishing at 74-75-76—225, and in 10th place overall individually. She had birdies on holes No. 3 and 12 on Wednesday.

Hu joins Ali Green (2016) and Erin Misheff (2012) as Ashland women's golfers who have qualified for nationals as individuals.

As a team, Ashland placed fifth in the 12-team field. The Eagles ended at 309-317-317—943. Indianapolis rallied on the final day to win the team title (292-292-298—882), followed by Grand Valley State (289-292-306—887), Missouri-St. Louis (305-308-300—913), Findlay (316-313-312—941), and the Eagles.

Freshman Hannah Lemons finished her consistent regional tournament in a tie for 13th individually at 75-76-77—228. She birdied holes No. 1 and 12 on Day 3, and concluded her rookie season with five rounds in a row of 78 or better.

Another freshman, Sophie Hemleben, was tied for 28th after her three-day total of 79-78-79—236. She birdied No. 12 on Wednesday, and for the first time in her collegiate career, has posted four consecutive sub-80 scores.

Junior Monica Torda (59th, 81-88-85—254) and sophomore Logan Pottorf (66th, 89-95-89—273, birdie on No. 2 on Wednesday) rounded out the Ashland effort.
