Sophomore Sophie Hemleben had to wait with the rest of Ashland University's women's golf team to get back on the course after playing just 18 holes to begin the 2018-19 season two weeks ago.

On Saturday (Sept. 22) at Cumberland Trail Golf Club in Pataskala, Ohio, Hemleben showed she wasn't the worse for rust, finishing the first round of the Cumberland Trail Golf Classic with a career-best 1-under-par 71 and in a tie for first place. Hemleben turned in a tie for the fifth-lowest round in program history thanks to an eagle on hole No. 5, and birdies on holes No. 2 and 6.

As a team, the Eagles finished the first day of play in a tie for sixth place in the 15-team field with a total of 324. Wayne State (309) is first, followed by Ohio Dominican and Saginaw Valley State (310).

Sophomore Hannah Lemons is in a tie for 26th individually with a first-day 81, followed by freshmen Cece Dillon (tied for 48th, 85) and Sophia Lowe (60th, 87), and senior Monica Torda (tied for 61st, 88).

Playing as individuals were juniors Logan Pottorf (tied for 69th, 90) and Claire Coughenour (83rd, 105).

The Eagle women will play in the second and final day of the Cumberland Trail Golf Classic on Sunday (Sept. 23).
