Starting its next-to-last fall tournament of 2018, Ashland University's women's golf team is in fifth place after the first 18 holes of the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 13).

The Eagles posted a team score of 323 on Day 1 of the 14-team event. Illinois-Springfield leads the field at 301, followed by McKendree (310), Saginaw Valley State (318) and Southern Indiana (319).

Leading the Ashland charge was sophomore Sophie Hemleben, whose 3-over-par score of 75 not only is good for a tie for third place on the individual leaderboard, but is five strokes better than her season average coming into the weekend.

Another sophomore, Hannah Lemons, is tied for 14th after carding a 78. Ashland's team play was rounded out by freshman Sophia Lowe (tied for 39th, 84), junior Logan Pottorf (tied for 51st, 86) and senior Monica Torda (tied for 53rd, 87).

Playing as individuals on Saturday were freshmen Virginia Travers (72nd, 103) and Cece Dillon (tied for 73rd, 104).

Ashland will play Day 2 of the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 14).
