Megan Pollock eventually was going to be an Ashland University Eagle.
The beginning of Pollock's collegiate golf career came down to Ashland and where she played three seasons, NCAA Division I Dayton. Once Eagle head coach Gene Grabiec recently approached Pollock and her family with the opportunity to finish her career at AU, Pollock's father got up from the table and came back with an Ashland hat on.
So Pollock, a senior, officially is a member of the Ashland women's golf team, and will play her senior season as an Eagle in 2019-20.
"The opportunity just fell into my lap," said Pollock, who in 2016-17 as a junior at Dayton, played in 11 rounds and had an average score of 86.27. "It's an opportunity of a lifetime. Second chances don't come around a lot, so how couldn't I take it?"
"I'm real excited Megan's come to us," Grabiec said. "She's here for our Masters program. She's been in Division I competition. She has experienced it at the highest level. That, in of itself, brings an excitement. That is a major point for me."
Pollock joins an Eagle women's golf team which returns an All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference performer in junior Sophie Hemleben.
"She brings not only the credibility of playing Division I golf, but she brings a game. She's going to shoot consistently good scores," Grabiec said of Pollock. "That seems to bleed off onto the other players. Looking at last year's scores, and then bringing Megan in, we're going to be competitive."
Ashland women's golf will begin its 2019-20 season on Sept. 8-9 at the Gannon Michael Corbett Fall Classic.
