The 2019-20 season for Ashland University's women's golf team will begin on Sunday and Monday (Sept. 8-9) at Gannon's Michael Corbett Fall Classic in Erie, Pa.

"I'm pleased with the yards – it's only going to play 5,800," said first-year Ashland head coach Gene Grabiec about Lake Shore Country Club. "That could be a little bit of a benefit for us. I understand the golf course is a position-type golf course."

This year's Eagles will be led by senior Megan Pollock, a transfer from NCAA Division I Dayton, and junior Sophie Hemleben, who served as both Ashland's No. 1 and 2 golfer in 2018-19.

"I'm really excited about Sophie," Grabiec said. "I've been challenging Sophie, asking her to hit different shots. And she responds amazingly. We've been working on some knock-down shots and control trajectory shots, and she has responded well with that.

"As far as Megan is concerned, she is getting back into the competitive nature again. She's finding some footing."

Another key upperclassman will be senior Logan Pottorf.

"I've worked a lot with Logan, and worked on her short game. She has exponentically blossomed," Grabiec said. "With her now hitting shots under competitive conditions, that's just going to give her more confidence."

The Michael Corbett Fall Classic is one of six fall tournaments for the Eagle women, along with Ohio Dominican's Cumberland Trail Classic (Sept. 21-22), Ferris State's Bulldog Fall Invite (Sept. 28-29), Findlay's William Beall Fall Classic (Oct. 7-8), Trevecca Nazarene's Music City Invitational (Oct. 14-15), and Davenport's Panther Invitational (Oct. 19-20).
