For the first time in her Ashland University career, junior Sophie Hemleben has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week.

Hemleben earned the Week 5 honor on Thursday (Oct. 10) morning thanks to a showing at Findlay's William Beall Fall Classic which is one of the best 54-hole scores in Ashland women's golf history. In finishing in a tie for fourth place on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 7-8), Hemleben carded 72-75-76, and her total of 223 is tied for the fourth-lowest three-round score in program annals.

In four fall events and eight fall rounds, Hemleben is averaging a score of 76.63, and has three top-10 individual placements (second at Gannon, tied for eighth at Ferris State and tied for fourth at Findlay).

Ashland's women's golf team will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 14-15) at Trevecca Nazarene's Music City Invitational.
