Smith Named AU Women’s Lacrosse Assistant Coach

Ashland University women's lacrosse head coach Shaun Williamson announced on Wednesday (Dec. 5) morning the addition of Becky Smith as the program's assistant coach.

"We are really excited to have Becky join us," said Willamson. "I believe she is going to bring great experience to our young program. The moment I met Becky, I thought she would mesh perfectly with myself and our players."

"I was attracted to Ashland because of its history of successful athletics," Smith said. "I'm excited to be a part of building the culture and laying the foundation for a successful women's lacrosse program."

Smith played four seasons at NCAA Division III Gordon College (2012-15). Since the conclusion of her playing career, Smith has spent time in various coaching roles. She spent 2016-18 as the head varsity coach at Manchester Essex (Ma.) High School. In this role, Smith was twice named Coach of the Year in her division (2017, 2018), and twice led her team to a Cape Ann League Baker Division championship (2016, 2018). Smith's team qualified for the state tournament all three seasons she was coaching.

She also served as a United States lacrosse high school national tournament coach in 2017. During her tenure, Smith's team won their division.

Smith also has experience coaching at the club lacrosse level with the Middlesex Bears club lacrosse program, and at the college level as a volunteer assistant for her alma mater.

Smith graduated from Gordon College in 2016 with a degree in French and Middle School Education.

Ashland will begin its first women's lacrosse season on Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. at Ferguson Field against Notre Dame College.
