Ashland University's lacrosse team won its first game in program history the last time out against Shorter, but the Eagles were not able to pick up a second straight win at Mars Hill on Thursday (March 7).
The Eagles lost to the Lions, 16-11.
The first half was an even bout, tied at 5-all at the break. Junior Renee Ruppert struck first for AU, scoring on an assist from junior Sofia Michael at 29:09. Ruppert had three goals on the night. Freshman Cora Wilson added her lone goal of the game at 22:14 to put the Eagles up 2-1.
Michael added her first of four goals at 16:49 in the first half to take a 4-2 lead. Senior Haley Abraszek scored the last goal of the first half for Ashland at 7:30 unassisted, as she ended with two in the contest.
In the second half, Michael added three more goals - two unassisted, and her final on a pass from Wilson. Senior Lauren Taylor got on the board with 9:08 left in the game to bring AU to within four goals. The Lions were able to hold their ground down the stretch to pull out the win.
Shots were evenly matched in the contest, Mars Hill with 33 and Ashland with 31.
For a second game in a row, AU was dominant on the draw control, leading the Lions 19-10.
The Eagles will play their next contest at McKendree on March 15.
