Eagles Drop Home GLIAC Contest To McKendree

Ashland University's lacrosse team lost at home to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent McKendree, 25-2, on Friday (April 5) at Ferguson Field.

The Eagles (2-6, 1-4) dropped their second game to the Bearcats (7-5, 6-2) this season.

Juniors Sofia Michael and Renee Ruppert each scored a goal for Ashland. Michael scored on an underhand shot from a free position attempt, while Ruppert had a strong solo effort to weave through the defense for her goal.

Leading offensively for the Bearcats was Emily Nelson. Nelson had six goals on seven shots, and three assists. She also led the team, and had a game-high, 10 draw controls.

In net, freshman Corynn Schneider made six saves. McKendree fired 35 shots at the net to Ashland's eight.

The Bearcats were efficient clearing the ball, going 11-for-11. The Eagles cleared at a 50-percent clip, 5-for-10.

Draw controls were tightly-contested throughout, as McKendree lead in the category, 15-12.

The next game for Ashland will be on Sunday (April 7) at home against Maryville at 1 p.m.
