Ashland Loses In Road GLIAC Contest At St. Paul

Ashland University's lacrosse team lost at Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday (April 18) night.

The Eagles (4-8 overall, 3-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) faced a large deficit early, as the St. Paul led 16-3 at halftime and finished with a 24-6 win.

Ashland was led on offense by junior Sofia Michael, who had three goals, taking her season tally to 47. Her junior counterpart, Renee Ruppert, also added a goal and a pair of assists. Senior Haley Abraszek got on the board with one goal, and freshman Cora Wilson had a goal and an assist in the contest.

In the net for the Eagles, freshman Corynn Schneider mad eight saves on 32 shots on goal.

The Golden Bears outshot the Eagles, 44-11, and 32-10 in shots on goal. Both teams were able to clear the ball effectively. Ashland was 12-for-15, and Concordia-St. Paul was nearly perfect, clearing 14-of-15.

The Golden Bears led on draw controls, 21-10, which also played a factor in being able to fire off more shots in the game. The Eagles turned the ball over at nearly twice the rate of their opponent, 20 times to Concordia-St. Paul's 11.

The Golden Bear attack was led by Alina Boyce, who had 10 points on six goals and four assists, and Maddie Henteges, who found the net four times.

AU will play next on Saturday (April 20) at 11 a.m. at Northern Michigan in a crucial GLIAC matchup with postseason implications.
