Eagles Lose Double Overtime Thriller At Ursuline

Ashland University's lacrosse team lost a double-overtime thriller on Tuesday (April 23) at Ursuline.

The Eagles had a huge second half to force overtime, but weren't able to come away with a win, losing 14-13.

Ashland trailed 10-6 at the half, but outscored the Arrows 7-3 in the second half. In the first overtime period, no goals were scored. In the second extra period, Jaclyn Gilmore found the winner for Ursuline with 25 seconds left.

Junior Renee Ruppert had a huge offensive performance for AU, scoring four goals and assisting on two more. Senior Lauren Taylor scored three goals and had an assist. Other offensive contributors were junior Sofia Michael with two goals and an assist, freshman Cora Wilson, who added a goal and an assist, senior Haley Abraszek had one goal and two assists, sophomore Leah Brickman found the net once, and junior Alex Newcomer also scored once.

Freshman Nadine Elbarrad went the distance in net for Ashland. She made 12 saves in the contest on 33 shots.

Ashland won more draw controls in the game, 18 to Ursuline's 12, and outshot the Arrows, 36-33. The Eagles were also more efficient clearing the ball. They were 18-for-19, while Ursuline was 20-for-24.

Ursuline was led to victory by a three-headed attack of Michaela Riley, Gilmore, and Julia Zackey. Riley scored four goals and had four assists, Gilmore found the net four times, and Zackey had five goals and added an assist.

Ashland will play its final two regular-season games at home. The Eagles will start that stretch with Indianapolis on Firday (April 26) at 4 p.m.
