Davis, Southwick Win Harris Open Titles

Two Ashland University wrestlers won championships last Saturday (Nov. 20) at the 20th Annual Harris Open, hosted by the Eagles at Conard Field House.

At 125 pounds, senior Brandon Davis (Greensboro, N.C./Page) won a gold medal with a 10-4 decision over Gannon's Adam Weinell.  Davis went 4-0 in the tourney.

Junior Jacob Southwick (Bowling Green, Ohio/Otsego) won a championship at 285 pounds. In the title bout, Southwick was a 4-1 winner of Findlay's Andrew Tumlin.

A pair of AU wrestlers won silver medals.  Senior Kyle Kanaga (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) lost in the championship bout at 141 pounds to Edinboro's Mitchell Port. Port pinned Kanaga in 6:30.

At 184 pounds, sophomore Ryan Thatcher (Loudonville, Ohio) finished as the runnerup.  He lost to Notre Dame College's Jake Burge, 3-1.
