At Ashland - Had a breakout season in 2010-11 when he became one of the top 285-pounders in the nation...earned the first All-America citation of his career when he finished fourth at nationals...entered the national meet ranked fifth in the nation...went 36-6 with a school record 18 pins...is the third wrestler in school history to win 36 times in a season, the school single-season record for wins is 37...won a Midwest Region championship…went 9-8 in 2009-10 and 6-8 in 2008-2009...begins the 2011-12 season ranked first in the region and third in the country.

High School/Personal - at Otsego High School was a two-time state placer…was 43-2 his senior year…lettered four times in wrestling and track and field and three times in football…on the gridiron was an all-conference lineman…reached the regional meet in track and field throwing the shot and the discus…is the son of Jay and Karan Southwick.
