Eagles Win Two Duals, Labry Breaks AU Wins Record

The No. 11-ranked Ashland University wrestling team swept East Stroudsburg and West Liberty at a tri-meet in Wheeling, W.Va., on Sunday (Dec. 4) afternoon, defeating the Warriors, 41-12, and the Hilltoppers, 37-9.

In the midst of it all, senior Michael Labry (No. 1 regionally at 133 pounds) won his 127th and 128th career matches at Ashland, tying and breaking the school's career record set by Corey Kline. Labry won 18-3 by technical fall in the dual against ESU and by forfeit in the dual against West Liberty.

Also earning points for the Eagles in the win over East Stroudsburg were freshmen Bret Romanzak (No. 7 at 165 pounds) and Deaken McCoy (285), sophomores Sebastian Vidika (No. 4 at 125) and Colton Ullman (No. 1 at 157), junior Luke Cramer (No. 4 at 197) and seniors Brenden Stanley (174) and Brent Fickel (No. 1 at 149). Romanzak won 3-0 in a decision, McCoy by fall in 1:08, Vidika by forfeit, Ullman 11-2 in a major decision, Cramer 21-5 by technical fall, Stanley by forfeit and Fickel by fall in 4:32.

Contributing points for AU in the victory over the Hilltoppers besides Labry was Fickel by fall in 4:38, Romanzak in a 4-0 decision, Stanley in a 7-5 decision, Cramer by fall in 1:22, McCoy by a 3-0 decision, sophomore Chandler Minnard (No. 4 at 141) by forfeit and freshman Garrett Hall (157) in a 9-0 major decision.

UP NEXT: Ashland will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., for the two-day Midwest Classic on Dec. 17-18.
