Eagles First In Region, Ninth Nationally For First Time This Season

After comfortably beating nationally-ranked opponents Lake Erie and Kutztown, the Ashland University wrestling team has cracked the top 10 for the first time this season, coming in at No. 9 in the country in Wednesday's (Feb. 1) Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Poll.

The Eagles also earned a No. 1 ranking in the Super Region Two poll released on Tuesday (Jan. 31).

A season-high five Ashland wrestlers earned individual national rankings. Eight Eagles are ranked regionally.

Redshirt senior Michael Labry is No. 1 nationally and regionally at 133 pounds, redshirt senior Brent Fickel is No. 4 in the country and No. 3 in the region at 149, redshirt junior Jordan Murphy is 10th in the nation and second in the region at 184, redshirt junior Luke Cramer is 11th nationally and fourth regionally at 197, sophomore Chandler Minnard is No. 12 in the country and No. 3 in the region at 141, redshirt sophomore Sebastian Vidika (125) is fourth in the region, redshirt freshman Bret Romanzak (165) is sixth regionally and sophomore Deaken McCoy (285) is third in the region.

UP NEXT: In its final home dual of the season, Ashland will face Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Findlay on Friday (Feb. 3) at 7 p.m. at Kates Gymnasium. Findlay is currently ranked 10th in the country and third in the region.
