Eagles Slotted 10th In D-II, Five AU Grapplers Nationally Ranked

In the latest set of Division II Wrestling Coaches Association rankings, Ashland University's wrestling team is ranked No. 10 in the country, and five Eagles are slotted among the best in the nation at their respective weight classes.

Senior Luke Cramer (4-0) is the top-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds, while sophomore Bret Romanzak (13-3) is the No. 3 grappler at 165 pounds. Sophomore Christian Price (8-2) and sophomore Deaken McCoy (5-3) are ranked No. 10 at 174 and 285 pounds, respectively, and junior Lawrance Dudgeon (6-3) is No. 12 at 133 pounds.

In the latest super region rankings, Ashland is No. 2 as a team, behind only Indianapolis. Romanzak, Price and Cramer all are the top-ranked individuals at their respective weight classes.

In all, eight Eagles are regionally ranked, including McCoy (third) at 285, Dudgeon (fourth) at 133, junior Sebastian Vidika (6-3) at 125, freshman Dustin Marteney (10-4) at 149 and sophomore Garrett Hall (3-3) at 157.

The Eagles will be back in action for the 2017-18 home opener, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. vs. No. 5 Pitt-Johnstown at Kates Gymnasium.
